“It was always our preferred option to sell rather than close the titles,” a Reed Elsevier spokesperson said. “It is possible that expressions of interest may be received for the IP [intellectual property] associated with the brands.”
The 23 titles to be shut down will officially close up shop at the end of the month. When asked about the possibility of operating these brands as online-only titles, the spokesperson said the option was not “commercially viable.”
Reed Elsevier will continue to operate Variety, Reed Construction Data and a handful of other business information brands in the U.S.
RBI-US sold off a number of trade publications over the last several months, including Interior Design, Publishers Weekly and TWICE.
