Red Herring appoints new CEO

San Francisco--Red Herring Communications Inc., which publishes Red Herring magazine, named Chris Dobbrow as CEO. Dobbrow, replaces Hilary Schneider, who is leaving for a senior management position at Knight Ridder Inc. Most recently Dobbrow was senior VP of RealNames Corp. and was also co-founder and CEO of SmartPlanet, now the technology training channel of CNET Networks Inc. The fortunes of Red Herring--a darling during the dot-com boom--have plummeted in the last year. Through March ad pages were down 77% compared with the same period last year. Ad revenue was also down 77%.
