London—Reed Elsevier has instructed its Reed Exhibitions subsidiary to divest its defense trade shows.

The shows up for sale are: DSEi (Defense Systems & Equipment International), which is held every two years in London; IDEX, a major defense exhibition in the Middle East held every two years; ITEC, a training and simulation exhibition held annually in different European cities; LAAD (Latin American Aero & Defense), held every two years in Rio de Janeiro; and TADTE (Taipei Aerospace & Defense Technology), which is held every two years in Taiwan.

“Our defense shows are quality businesses which have performed well in recent years,” said Reed Elsevier CEO Sir Crispin Davis, in a news release. “Nonetheless it has become increasingly clear that growing numbers of important customers have very real concerns about involvement in the defense exhibition business.”

He added that the shows are no longer compatible with Reed Elsevier’s business, legal, medical and scientific portfolios.

Reed Elsevier said it intends to sell the properties during the second half of this year.
