Reed Elsevier warns of lower revenue

Published on .

New York -- Reed Elsevier, the parent company of Cahners Business Information, Newton, Mass., informed a group of investors this week that the Dutch-Anglo publishing company's revenue is expected to be lower in 1999 when compared with 1998. Reed Elsevier blamed the expected revenue decline on weak ad page revenue at Newton, Mass.-based Cahners and increased competition for its Lexis-Nexis product. Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette downgraded both Reed International plc and Elsevier NV to "underperform."
