Stamford, Conn.--Spending on database management platforms expanded 10% in 2000 to $8.8 billion, according to a new report from Gartner Group Inc. unit Dataquest Inc. That number was down from 18% growth in 1999, compared with 1998. The report also revealed that Oracle Corp. in 2000 expanded its share of the database management market to 33.8%, from 31.4% in 1999. Microsoft Corp. also gained market share, to 14.9% from 13.1% in 1999. IBM Corp.'s market share, meanwhile, expanded to 30.1% in 2000, up from 29.9% in 1999. Some smaller competitors, including Sybase Inc., lost market share.
