Mountain View, Calif.—Consumption of online video has been shifting strongly to mobile devices and is now a necessary channel for broadcasters, brands and media companies, according to a report from video streaming company Ooyala Inc. According to Ooyala's "Global Video Index: 2012 Year in Review," hours spent watching streaming video on tablets and other mobile devices increased 100% in 2012 over the previous year. Further, iPhone users watched twice as many videos than users of smartphones powered by Google's Android OS. Ooyala's study is based on an analysis of video consumption among 200 million unique viewers in more than 130 countries during 2012.
