Report: Tweets with pictures shared three times more often

Washington—Twitter posts that include a picture are more than three times more likely to be retweeted than those without one, according to “The Retweet Report” from competitive tracking platform TrackMaven. A tweet without a picture received an average 0.13 retweets, while a tweet with a photo, graphic or other image received 0.40 retweets on average. The report also found an inverse relationship between the busiest times for tweeting and retweeting. Tweets are most frequently sent on weekdays between noon and 3 p.m. ET, but the greatest number of retweets occurs between 10 p.m. and midnight. Similarly, while more tweets are sent out during the work week, the average rate of retweets is higher on weekends. Using more hashtags also increases the likelihood of retweets, according to the report. Tweets with five hashtags received an average of 0.30 retweets as compared with 0.12 retweets for those without any. The report was based on a year-long analysis of 1.7 million tweets from 1,423 Twitter accounts, all of which had 1,000 or more followers.
