Reuters and Microsoft link for instant messaging

Published on .

London--Hoping to steal market share from rival Bloomberg L.P., Reuters Group plc announced a partnership with Microsoft Corp. to develop an instant messaging service for the financial services industry. The service will allow uses to message contracts via any PC or hand-held device, creating a "buddy list" system for traders and other financial professionals. It's designed to overcome problems caused by delays in internal e-mail and the firewall systems used by many banks. Many financial companies now use Bloomberg's messaging system because of its popular "screen topping" feature.
