Rising Tide Studios puts itself on the block

Published on .

New York--Rising Tide Studios, which publishes the bimonthly Venture Reporter, has put itself on the block. A potential sale of the technology media company was first reported in BtoB sister publication Crain’s New York Business. Founded by Jason McCabe Calacanis in 1996, Rising Tide initially launched Silicon Alley Reporter, which folded in September 2001 because the dot-com meltdown left little audience for the publication. It was soon reborn as Venture Reporter. If the company, which is $2 million in debt, is not sold, Calacanis said filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection is a possibility.
