Chicago—Commercial printer RR Donnelley announced it has shuttered two of its plants, putting almost 500 employees out of work.

The printer of magazines, catalogs, newspaper inserts and financial documents said it is closing its plant in the Chicago suburb of Hillside, citing “unprecedented economic times.” Donnelley employed 118 employees at the plant. It also closed its plant in Wells, Maine, near Portland, putting 370 people out of work.

The plant closings come as Donnelley this week announced a $175 million multiyear deal with apparel merchant Orchard Brand to print its catalogs and other materials. Last week, Donnelley announced a similar $500 million multiyear deal with Publishing Group of America.
