Salesforce enhances file sharing with Files service

Published on .

San Francisco—Salesforce.com Inc. has launched Salesforce Files, a service that enables users to gather and connect documents collected across various Salesforce products. The new service, an enhancement of the Salesforce file-sharing service previously called Chatterbox, is intended to gather files from internal and third-party services for collaboration across the Salesforce ecosystem, which includes sales, service, human resources and marketing products. It will compete against such third-party file-sharing services as Box, Dropbox and Microsoft Corp.'s SkyDrive and Office365 products. Salesforce Files—currently in beta but expected to be widely available in early 2014—is based on technology from EntropySoft, which Salesforce acquired in February.
