SAS, IBM partner for financial services, telecommunications

San Francisco--SAS Institute has entered into a strategic alliance with IBM Corp., Armonk, N.Y., to develop customer analysis applications for the financial services and telecommunications industries. IBM will integrate its enterprise infrastructure and data management software with SAS' software and services for analyzing information. Financial services and telecommunications companies are among the most aggressive Web marketers. By combining their technologies, the two companies will compete for customer relationship management dollars from companies in those industries. Industry analyst firm IDC expects the market for CRM applications software and services to reach $68 billion this year and $162 billion by 2005.
