Search engine company Overture reports first-ever profit

Pasadena, Calif.--Search engine company Overture Services Inc., formerly GoTo.com, reported its first-ever quarterly profit, with earnings of $9 million, or 15 cents a share, for the third quarter, compared with a loss of $46.1 million, or 94 cents a share, for the same period last year. Overture reported revenue of $72.5 million, nearly triple revenue of $25 million for the third quarter last year. The company provides a search engine service in which it charges publishers a higher fee for higher rankings in its listings. It now has 49,000 advertisers.
