Search keyword prices falter in July

San Francisco—Search engine keyword prices fell in July by an average of seven cents to $1.65 compared with June, according to Fathom Online, a search engine marketing company that tracks pricing in its monthly Keyword Price Index.

Prices that advertisers paid for keywords fell in seven of eight categories tracked. The telecom-wireless category fell 13% to $1.72, dragging the overall average down. The other six categories experienced dips in the 1%-to-4% range.

The consumer services category was flat at $1.12.
