San Francisco-GlobalNetXchange, the Sears, Roebuck and Co.-led e-marketplace, has chosen supply chain tools from Manugistics Group Inc., Rockville, Md. The decision was a major surprise, since Oracle Corp.-which competes with Manugistics in the supply chain area-is the marketplace technology provider for GNX and even owns an equity stake in the company. GNX will use the Manugistics software to deploy collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment services to its retail customers. CPFR software is a retail industry effort to standardize how companies manage their supply chains. In related news last week, GNX competitor WorldWide Retail Exchange tapped Manugistics competitor i2Technologies Inc. to provide CPFR software for its e-marketplace.
