Segal urges executives to be customer-focused

Cincinnati--Rick Segal, managing director of Hensley Segal Rentschler, Wednesday urged CEOs and marketing executives at Future Focus '99 to focus on their competitors. ``Although it's incredibly important to be customer-focused, we've laid everything at the altar of customer-focus, and we've lost sight of how critically important it is to still be competitor-focused,'' he said. ``I think consultants, marketing managers and headquarters executives scribbling on their white boards and matrixing their ways to PowerPoint nirvana too often lose touch with the sheer ferocity of the free marketplace. It's still a world of wins and losses.'' Business Marketing named Hensley Segal Rentschler Agency of the Year for 1994 and 1997.
