Segmenting social traffic in Google Analytics

If you use Google Analytics, you’ve undoubtedly seen the typical pie chart that breaks out the percentage of your website visitors coming from search engines, direct traffic, referring sites and “other.” Problem is, says SEOmoz CEO Rand Fishkin, there’s no breakdown of “social media” in this view of traffic sources. Marketers need an easy way to segment and “see” this traffic separately from the rest of their referrers, Fishkin says, and offers a way to extract that data in just a few simple steps.
