Even in the cramped space offered by an online banner, following some simple rules can make for an effective ad. Take this example from Sensirion, a sensor manufacturer. Sensirion creates a solid visual—sensors poised on a fingertip—which has a human element to attract the eye while demonstrating exactly the kind of sensor the company offers. Using Flash animation, the ad toggles back and forth from the visual to the company logo turned on its side vertically, which only adds to the visual allure. The copy unfortunately emphasizes features over benefits, but you can't have everything. Rating: 3 stars
