Challenge: NetMotion Inc., a design solutions provider and specialty components supplier for equipment manufacturers, was looking for a solution because its clients had difficulty viewing the company’s catalog online. “They had to have Acrobat Reader installed and opened prior to viewing, [and] they had to download more than 1 MB of data before the catalog would open,” said M.A. Raman, NetMotion’s sales manager. The static catalog meant the designers could not create links in the table of contents, and so readers had to scroll down page by page. “It was inconvenient for our customers,” Raman said.
Solution: NetMotion turned to RealRead, a provider of software that allows industrial manufacturers and distributors to quickly convert their manuals, catalogs and Adobe Acrobat PDFs into Web-ready content. RealRead offered its Remote Pro Package, which included conversion software and a monthly, renewable hosting of the catalog on the RealRead server. NetMotion can modify its catalog at any time and reload the updated document to the RealRead server. The increased capabilities include hyperlinks, an index, a search function and zoom features. “The best part about it is that RealRead can make our catalog searchable not only within the document but also by search engines. We have gained added visibility without additional cost,” Raman said.
Results: NetMotion has received more customer inquiries since it upgraded the catalog to RealRead format. According to Raman, there has been about a 10% increase in sales inquiries. “We believe it's because the catalog is now searchable by various search engines,” Raman said. “It really helped us a lot.”
