‘Short-form news release’ Web site debuts

Nutley, N.J.—A new Web site for public relations professionals is presenting itself as a combination of Twitter and PR Newswire.

The QuickNewsBits Web site is currently in beta testing. The brainchild of David Bray, managing director of PR firm Middleberg Communications, the site is designed to address what Bray describes as dissatisfaction with the traditional and online dissemination of press releases. “The press release is dead,” he said.

On the site, users will post what Bray calls “short-form news releases” that will have no more than 160 characters. Video, press releases, white papers and other collateral associated with the postings can be downloaded from the site by journalists.

The fee for a basic post is $45.
