Producer comment: “It is a challenging year for conferences,” said Felicia Hamerman, group marketing director at TechInsights. “Part of our strategy was to focus on expo attendance.”
Exhibitor comment: “We were able to reach a segment of the population that wasn't aware of Windows Embedded and then we were able to reach out to existing customers at the show as well,” said Sarah Jamieson, marketing manager with the Windows Embedded group at Microsoft Corp. “Our partners were able to showcase what they've been doing, which is important.”
Breakdown: Employers may have less money to spend on sending engineers to conferences, but the community still wants education, Hamerman said. ESC Boston responded with new educational initiatives, including a hands-on training sequence and more sponsored sessions, as well as free presentations in the exhibition hall theater. The company put together survival kits for engineers and worked with exhibitors on giveaways that would draw conference attendees to the show floor.
