What: The first annual SensorsGOV Expo is a spinoff of Sensors Expo, Advanstar's 20-year-old show for the sensor technology industry. SensorsGOV, which was produced in partnership with the National Association of Sensor Science & Technology and sponsored by organizations including Oceana Sensor Technology and NASA, was designed to appeal specifically to the needs of the government market.

Producer comment: "One prevailing theme that came out of the show is the importance of collaboration among business, government and science to foster innovation in the sensor field," said Cathy Walters, show director for Sensors Expo and SensorsGOV Expo. The government agencies there were eager for the show, she said. "It gave them the opportunity to talk about their sensor needs." Walters said she received positive feedback from exhibitors and attendees. "NASA was a major sponsor," she said. "They were so pleased with the event that they strengthened their commitment to the show going forward."
Exhibitor comment: "The conference sessions and networking opportunities allowed us to capture information and meet individuals that will help move our business forward," said David Tietjen, VP-sales and marketing at Merit Sensor Systems. "We will be exhibiting [again] next year."
Breakdown: After the launch of the first Sensors GOV Expo, Advanstar said the attendees were highly qualified and feedback was unanimously positive. Based on the show's success, Advanstar said it will have a second show-Sept. 13-15, 2005, at Hampton Roads Convention Center, in Hampton, Va.-that will continue to build relationships with government and military agencies.
