Producer comment: "Despite Hurricane Wilma, we forged ahead with confidence and gave our registrants, presenters, sponsors and the press continuous updates on the local weather and our plans to proceed with the conference," said Ron Milton, exec VP at Computerworld. "... We had blogging on several focused-technology media, and the seriousness of the conversations in the blogs and at the event itself was very good. With the impending hurricane and a tropical storm watch, we had more than 2,700 registered and about 2,200 checked in. Registration remained comparable with 2004 levels and the end result was sponsors pleased with a busy expo.
Exhibitor comment: "The fall SNW event was terrific," said Sonja Ortmayer, event manager, HP Americas Enterprise Marketing. "In spite of Hurricane Wilma, the event went off without a hitch. At the HP booth, we were able to obtain more than 300 qualified leads, which is significant for the amount of hours the show was open."
Breakdown: Milton said keeping registrants continually informed of weather predictions and plans in place for contingencies regarding Hurricane Wilma in the week leading up to the conference "paid off handsomely." Room capacity at the show's two hotels was 94%. Typically, without weather-related challenges, capacity comes in at 95%.
