Skype to feature home page display ads

Published on .

Luxembourg—Internet telephone and teleconferencing service Skype is integrating display advertising in the home tab of its call management software, beginning with Windows-based computers.

Skype is partnering with social network integration company Meebo, Mountain View, Calif., to sell ads to U.S. companies. Ad2One will handle sales in the U.K. and Ströer Interactive will manage ads in Germany.

The first advertisers to sign up with Skype include Groupon Inc., Nokia, Universal Pictures and Visa Inc., according to Skype, which last summer filed to go public.
