Skype hunt

A recent post by Jen Williams on the blog, “Pronet Advertising,” is titled “The Vast Implications of the Microsoft Skype Deal.” The post asks why Microsoft acquired Skype, which lost $7 million last year, for $8 billion. Williams posits the notion that Microsoft pulled the trigger on the deal to keep Skype out of Google's hands. At the same time, Williams writes, “Skype has plenty of value in sectors of Microsoft that Skype doesn't have on its own. Integration with Windows Live is one thing, but Microsoft also has the Windows Phone 7. The purchase of Skype may be the first step in launching as both carrier and OS developer.”
