The IT supply chain is constantly growing, what with the vendors, systems integrators and consultants who are increasingly being called on to solve computer problems that can no longer be handled by a company’s own staff. It’s a trend that’s probably not going away, and it’s given Quigley an opportunity to market Smart Partner as a vehicle for the growing number of companies in the PC distribution channel.
"Advertisers have recognized that they need to convey a strategy to project managers," said Quigley, whose appointment to Smart Partner marks his return to Ziff Davis, where he spent six years earlier in his career working in ad sales for such titles as PC Magazine and Window Sources. "We have to find the partners who need partners. The key is small companies that need to go to market."
His first move: In January he boosted circulation to 100,000 from 85,000, and raised the frequency to 48 issues a year from 45. He’s launching a Webcast in April that will start to run monthly in June and is also planning for the third "Smart Solutions" exhibit at the Comdex show in Las Vegas this fall.
Quigley rejoined Ziff Davis from Post Newsweek Tech Group, where he was an exec VP.
