Framingham, Mass.—Sixty-nine percent of respondents to an IDG Global Solutions survey said they use a smartphone for business purposes while 73% said they use one for personal reasons. Twenty percent of all respondents owned a tablet, and another 67% said they plan to buy one of the devices in the next 12 months.
The online survey was completed in February and March by about 13,700 people in 16 countries.
Apple (29%) and BlackBerry (26%) are the most popular brands for business use in the U.S. Apple (33%) and Samsung (15%) are the leaders for personal use. Seventy percent said they use smartphones to browse the Internet and use mobile apps. In the U.S., 965 respondents completed the survey.
“Tech marketers are recognizing the value of mobile advertising as the device market heats up,” Matthew Yorke, IDG Global Solutions president, said in a statement. “I expect spending on mobile to rise sharply in the coming year, much like what happened with social media marketing over the past two years.”
