New York—Forbes Media announced Monday that Michael Smith has been named president of Forbes.com.

Smith had been senior VP-general manager of the site. He joined Forbes as chief technology officer in 2000.

“Mike has been one of the key architects of Forbes.com for the past nine years, and is significantly responsible for its leadership position today,” Steve Forbes, Forbes Media chairman-CEO, said in a statement.

Smith succeeds Jim Spanfeller, who announced his resignation in July. Spanfeller, who is now president-CEO of the Spanfeller Group, an online publishing consultancy, has joined the board of advisers of FatTail, an online ad optimization software company, it was announced Tuesday.
