With social media marketing and networking clearly the wave of the future, Jill Whalen, CEO of High Ranking says marketers need to be in the social network game, but not at the expense of a solid organic search strategy. Her post on the Search Engine Land blog posits some meaty questions marketers should ask themselves when it comes to social media marketing. Questions such as, "How does it sell your products and services? and "Does it increase your rankings for the keyword phrases your actual target audience is typing into the search engines?" Whalen says either way, it should be done in concert with, rather than instead of, SEO.
