Solectron agrees to buy Canada's C-Mac for $2.7 billion

Milpitas, Calif. -- Solectron Corp., one of the biggest makers of electronics for brand name companies, agreed on Thursday to buy Canada's C-Mac Industries Inc. for $2.7 billion in stock and debt to add factories and broaden its production services. The deal reflects the continuing consolidation in the electronics field brought on by the decline in the telecommunications sector.
