Credentials: When Wallace launched Digital Media Online in April 1999, he did something that was then probably considered wild and crazy by Web standards: He went old-school. Wallace, formerly publisher of several Advanstar Communications Inc. print titles, launched the DMO site, which aggregates 40 digital communities spanning the entire industry, with a traditional publishing model in mind. That is, build the content and they will come—and they have. Wallace said ad revenue in 2000 rose 500% from 1999, most of it coming from brick-and-mortar companies.
