Springer Science launches bid for Informa

Published on .

London—Publishing and conference group Informa said Thursday that it has received a takeover bid from rival Springer Science & Business Media.

Springer Science, the world’s second-largest specialist publishing group in the science, technology and medicine markets, is owned by private equity groups Cinven and Candover.

Informa, which is publicly owned, produces more than 10,000 events a year and has more than 2,000 subscription-based information services, including academic journals and business databases. A merger would create a b-to-b media company reportedly worth about $5 billion.
