Study: 40% of mobile owners use Internet

Published on .

New York—The U.S. mobile Web population will increase to 97.3 million mobile device users this year, up about 25% from last year, according to a new analysis by marketing consultancy eMarketer. This represents 40% of all mobile device users in the country. The company also predicted that mobile penetration will rise to 60.9% of the U.S. population by 2015, or 156.1 million users—largely driven by steady double-digit growth in the use of smarphones—when almost 150 million U.S. consumers will have such devices. EMarketer's estimates included people who access the Internet from a mobile browser or installed application at least once per month.
