London—Smartphones powered by Google Inc.'s Android operating system continue to lead in market share, but Apple Inc.'s iPhone has gained ground, according to a report by market research company Kantar Worldpanel. U.S. sales of Android-powered phones from various manufacturers for the three months ended in May accounted for 52.0% of sales, virtually unchanged from the same period in 2012. Apple's iPhone, boosted by its April debut on T-Mobile's network, reached 41.9% of U.S. smartphone sales during that three-month period, up from 38.4% a year ago. In third place was Microsoft's Windows Phone, which increased its share to 4.6% from 3.7% a year ago. BlackBerry sank to 0.7% of smartphone sales, down from 4.6%.
