Study compares usefulness of Internet, trade publications for business information

Toronto—A study released Thursday by the Canadian Business Press chronicles the rapid rise of the Internet as a tool for business information. The survey, conducted by Starch Research Services, found that 76% of respondents believe the Internet to be “very useful” as a source for business information. In 2004, the same study found that 53% found the Web “very useful.”

The survey found that the perception of print trade magazines changed very little in the same time frame. In 2004, 69% of respondents to a similar survey said specialized business publications were “very useful”; this year, 67% held the same view.

The study covered seven industries: agriculture, automotive and trucking, computers and technology, manufacturing, resources and construction, retail, and travel and tourism. There were 673 respondents to the survey, which was conducted online in March.
