Suttons Bay, Mich.—Oneupweb, a search engine optimization and marketing company, released the results of a study of Fortune 100 Web sites that found that fewer than 10% of marketers are using search engine optimization effectively. In addition, the study found that more than 40% are not optimizing their Web sites at all.
"If any of these companies was ignoring advertising or customer service, you’d expect the stock to tumble," said Lisa Wehr, president of Oneupweb. "These companies that have the best reputations, the greatest resources and the smartest talent should be using every opportunity to build their businesses and their brands."
Major brands that do not optimize their Web sites face brand erosion, warned Wehr, because customers spend so much time online and search has become an integral part of their lives.
