Study finds marketers do not understand small businesses

New York—Small businesses say marketers are not doing a good job understanding their needs and marketing to them, according to a study by Inc. and Cargo, a small-business marketing agency based in Greenville, S.C. The study,”B-Side Marketing Project,” was based on an online survey of 546 small-business owners, conducted in February and March. According to the survey, 46% of small-business owners said marketers try to sell to them rather than talk to them; 45% said marketers do not make the effort to understand their business; and 43% of said marketers do not understand their needs.
