Study: SMBs increase use of social, mobile technologies

Chantilly, Va.—Social media and mobile technologies for marketing purposes are proliferating among small-to-midsize businesses, according to a study by marketing consultancy BIA/Kelsey. According to BIA/Kelsey's “Local Commerce Monitor” survey of small businesses, 72% of SMBs responding said they use social media to promote their businesses, with 52% having a Facebook page for the business and 25% maintaining a Google+ Local page. SMBs are also increasingly turning to mobile to get customers in the door, with 32% stating they are using some form of mobile advertising to promote their businesses, up from 28% in 2012. BIA/Kelsey's study was based on an online survey in July of 568 companies with fewer than 100 employees.
