AT&T to pursue wireless advertising

Published on .

San Antonio, Texas—AT&T, which recently closed its $86 billion acquisition of Bell South Corp., will aggressively pursue wireless services—including advertising—aimed at businesses and consumers.

AT&T Chairman-CEO Edward Whitacre Jr. discussed the phone company’s plans to push new wireless services in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.

AT&T will begin selling AT&T-branded wireless services to its corporate and consumer customers, Whitacre said. He said advertising on cell phones is expected to be a key new revenue stream for the company.
