United Businessâ CMP Media L.L.C., saw its ad pages decline 9.3% over the same period, according to the data compiled by IMS/Auditor.
CMPâs InformationWeek and EE Times continued to leak ad pages. InformationWeekâs pages declined 23.9% in May compared with May 2002; year-to-date, the publicationâs ad pages were off 12.5%. EE Timesâ ad pages declined 22.5% in May, and year-to-date were off 20.5%.
CRN and VAR Business, both of which cover the channel, provided bright spots. CRNâs ad pages were up 9.4% in May and 6.2% year-to-date. VAR Businessâ ad pages were up 12.2% in May and 8.5% year-to-date.
VAR Business Associate Publisher Dan Dignam explained the boost at VAR Business and CRN by saying that the downturn had forced tech companies to refocus on marketing to the channel.
