Published on .

East Greenbush, N.Y.—Social media activity by engineering, technical, manufacturing and industrial professionals continues to rise, according to a new report from technology search engine and directory GlobalSpec Inc. According to GlobalSpec's “Social Media Use in the Industrial Sector,” LinkedIn use among industrial professionals reached 55% in 2011, up from 37% in the previous year; 66% have Facebook accounts, and 60% of that group “like” businesses in their industry. Twenty-nine percent have a Google+ account. Twitter is experiencing the slowest adoption rate among tech employees, with 22% using the platform, and 66% saying they are “not at all likely” to sign up. GlobalSpec's report was based on an online poll of 600 tech company professionals in November.
