Thomson Reuters division to acquire brand-protection company

New York—The intellectual property and science division of business data company Thomson Reuters Corp. will acquire MarkMonitor Inc., a provider of online brand protection. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. MarkMonitor's software allows companies to establish and defend their brands against such online risks as illegal distribution and promotion of pirated digital content, and offers anti-fraud, domain management and trademark protection services. According to Thomson Reuters, the acquisition of MarkMonitor, headquartered in San Francisco, will strengthen its portfolio of intellectual property solutions. MarkMonitor has more than 400 employees in five countries.
