Thomson in talks to acquire Reuters

Published on .

London—Thomson Corp. is pursuing an acquisition of Reuters Group, the two media companies confirmed Tuesday.

According to a joint statement, "Both boards believe there is a powerful and compelling logic for the combination, which would create a global leader in the business-to-business information markets."

Reuters is valued at more than $17 billion.

If an agreement is reached, Reuters CEO Tom Glocer would head the merged company, which would be called Thomson-Reuters. The combined Thomson Financial unit and Reuters financial and media businesses would be called Reuters.
