Times Publishing places 'Governing' on the block

Published on .

Washington, D.C.—The Times Publishing Co., which recently announced the sale of Congressional Quarterly to The Economist Group's Roll Call Group, said Tuesday that it now plans to sell Governing magazine, which has a circulation of 80,000 and covers state and local government. In addition to the magazine, the properties for sale include the Governing.com Web site and affiliated conferences and seminars. Last year, Times Publishing—which is based in St. Petersburg, Fla., publishes the St. Petersburg Times and is owned by the non-profit Poynter Institute—sold the CQ Press books division to Sage Publication. The Times Publishing Co. said it "has been divesting its Washington properties to support its growth initiatives in Florida." Times Publishing has hired investment bank Jordan Edmiston Group, which handled the previous deals for CQ and CQ Press, to handle the sale.
