Toronto marcomm unit buys majority in Fletcher Martin

Toronto--Maxxcom, the marketing communications unit of MDC Corp., continued its acquisition spree of American advertising agencies, buying a majority interest in Atlanta-based Fletcher Martin Associates. Maxxcom's other U.S. agencies include Colle & McVoy Marketing Communications, Minneapolis; Margeotes/Fertitta + Partners, New York; and Cybersight, Portland, Ore. Andy Fletcher, president-CEO of Fletcher Martin Associates, said he views the investment by Maxxcom as opportunities for growth and to reward Chief Creative Officer Michael Ewing with greater ownership in the agency, which will be renamed Fletcher Martin Ewing on Jan. 1.
