Tokyo--Toyota Motor Co. is in talks with General Motors Corp., Detroit, to participate in GM TradeXchange. Toyota spokeswoman Ririko Takeuchi told The Wall Street Journal
that participating in TradeXchange would be "one option to save on parts costs." A pact between Toyota and GM would spur business-to-business electronic-commerce in the auto and truck industry; the two companies together account for 22% of worldwide auto and truck production. GM TradeXchange, a joint venture between General Motors and Walnut Creek, Calif.-based Commerce One, held its first online auction Dec. 20.
