New York—Trade show revenue continued to outpace b-to-b advertising revenue in the first quarter, according to a report released Monday by American Business Media. Trade show revenue through March rose 5.3% from the year-earlier period to $2.94 billion. Attendance grew 3.1%. Meanwhile, b-to-b ad pages declined 2.91% and ad revenue dropped 1.16%. B-to-b ad categories that performed well in the first quarter included architecture, design and lightning (up 10.7% in ad revenue and 7.3% in ad pages); professional services (up 9.4% in ad revenue and 2.28% in ad pages); and resources, environment and utilities (up 8.25% in ad revenue and 2.2% in ad pages). Decliners included computing, software and telecommunications (down 12.98% in ad revenue and 5.27% in ad pages) and aviation, aerospace and military (down 11.43% in ad revenue and 6.45% in ad pages).
