Published on .

Arlington, Va.—Newspaper print advertising revenue was down 17.7% to $34.7 billion in 2008, according to data released Thursday by the Newspaper Association of America. Even more discouraging was the news that online advertising revenue for newspapers declined 1.8% to $3.1 billion in 2008. Separately, salaried employees at the New York Times Media Group will take 5% pay cuts beginning in April, according to a memo from publisher Arthur Sulzberger and CEO Janet Robinson that was posted on the Romensko blog at PoynterOnline on Thursday.
