True North buys Howard, Merrell

Chicago--True North Communications Inc. has acquired Howard, Merrell & Partners, a Raleigh, N.C.-based agency whose b-to-b clients include SAS Institute and Micell Technologies Inc. Howard, Merrell will continue to operate under its current name and management, while reporting to the Bozell Group unit of True North. David Bell, chairman-CEO of True North, said the company was attracted by Howard, Merrell's combination of creative and consulting. Mac Merrell, Howard, Merrell's CEO, said in a statement, ``We were attracted by True North's strengths in interactive, public relations and other marketing services along with their strong culture of collaboration.'' Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
