San Francisco—Twitter has announced it will launch a new website design that is intended to make it simpler to view conversations, author information and files associated with posts, such as photos and videos.

The redesigned website, to be launched in a few weeks, will contain the regular timeline of posts in a left-hand pane, with such additional post information on the right as writer bios, links and conversations that developed from that post.

Twitter said the experience of viewing ads would improve along with the revamped interface. For example, a link from a “sponsored tweet” will now be viewable without leaving the Twitter site.

While an estimated 78% of Twitter users access the microblogging service through the Twitter website, other services have attempted to make the experience more useful. For example, social media service HootSuite this week announced it will integrate into its dashboard Omniture's Web analytics solution to provide such additional data as social trends and traction of tweets.
